Observation of the day: After spending the majority of yesterday trucking around town in my new set of wheels (the wheelchair) or my walker, I am amazed at how nice people were to me. Opening doors, holding the elevator, even assisting Liz in rolling me when she reached rough spots on the sidewalk--it seemed they displayed more sensitivity and awareness than they ever displayed when I was completely ambulatory. It struck me that we should condition ourselves to be a bit more cognizant of our surroundings and the people who might just need a door opened, a helping hand or a smiling face to let them know they are not alone. Sounds corny, but its the little gestures of kindness that really fuel our days. Ive always aspired to reach out in small ways, but suddenly I realize that a succession of kind acts can change a persons attitude or perhaps even create momentum that sometimes alters the course of their lives. Happy Easter to all! I sooo appreciate you! There are so many of you that offered assistance that gave me a new lease on life.
