Of all the Australian asylum seeker fascist dogma this is perhaps one of the worst I have seen to date. Surely the way in which this video seeks to intimidate, threaten and scare people coming by boat into submission is not in the spirit of the international convention of human rights. The way in which the concepts of people smuggling and illegal arrival are being used is what really scares me. There may be people smugglers out there taking advantage of people seeking refuge but maybe its also the case these people smugglers are actually brave Heros helping refugees escape persecution. My wife left Bosnia in a fruit truck. Yep thats right some person smuggler accepted gifts of family jewlery to illegally get her over the boarder. My family of holocaust survivors left hungry illegally in a small boat after the Second World War and you can bet your bottom dollar that they had to pay someone to get them on that boat. If the current rehetoric had been about then my wife and my family would have had their attempt to seek refuge criminalised. There may be people smugglers exploiting refuges - but let us not blindly accept this possibility as reasonable ground for persecuting those already in desperate situations. We must stop criminalising the act of seeking refuge - it is not a crime - it is a right. And can someone please explain where in the international convention of human rights it say that you have the right to seek freedom persecution but only so long as you dont do it by boat. Come on Australia - come on anyone who is or who knows refugees anywhere - dont let our australia be one that attacks refugees before even deciding if they do or dont have a legit claim. We dont kick disabled kids when they have fallen out of wheal chairs - its Australian - lets not be part of this either.
