Ok, before I get into this whole thing, first let me say he is being seen and treated by doctors, and I am just looking for some additional help for tried and true home remedies for speeding up the healing and providing relief. About a month ago my 11 month old had a bout of diarrhea (the whole family got a stomach bug), and inspite of frequent changes, he got a diaper rash that was raw in spots. That rash didnt respond to my typical go-to of coconut oil and tea tree oil, but quickly cleared up with OTC Aquaphor ointment. He was good for about a week. Then another rash showed up for seemingly no reason. I cloth diaper, but in case it was a new sensitivity to detergent or something I went ahead and bought some disposables (plus some rash creams destroy cloth diapers). I tried: Coconut oil, tea tree, aquaphor, boudreauxs, yogurt, corn starch, and for itch relief (which did help for comfort) Goldbond powder. Nothing touched it. Took him to the doctor on Monday and got a Nystatin (good anti-fungal) prescription for suspected yeast infection. 5 days later it looks as bad or worse than ever. I am letting him roam my house naked when he isnt at daycare (thank goodness for no carpet). Okay, so here is the AH-HA moment. Yesterday daycare calls and says he is developing blisters on his fingers. His pediatrician doesnt work on Thursdays so I take him to see another doctor to look at his fingers. They pop the blister to take a culture sample. They suspect some sort of staph. At the time I am not even thinking about the diaper rash, and its not the same doctor that was treating for the rash so he didnt know. As I am driving him home I start to wonder if staph can present as a diaper rash. 5 minutes of googling and I find images of rashes that look just like his. We wont have the culture results and follow-up visit with normal doc until next Tuesday morning. If I assume for now that the diaper rash is also probably staph, is there anything I can start doing now to help him? Antibiotic ointment? He has already been miserable for weeks!
