Ok my last post of the day then I have to galavant through Berlin - TopicsExpress

Ok my last post of the day then I have to galavant through Berlin seeing as how this is my last week here before I return back to war zone that is America. A Caucasian friend recently posed the question: WHO was selling the slaves to the Europeans in Africa And with all due respect to my friend I know this was less a question and more a remark. But I will address it as an innocent question because its a question/remark Ive heard from a lot of whites actually. So this is to enlighten their ignorance and even other blacks who may not know this. Slavery in ancient times has always went hand in hand with war. It was the same in Europe as well. Yes there were African tribes leaders who sold the loosing tribesmen of their wars to Europeans. But let me explain to you what slavery meant or was supposed to mean. It was supposed to be a way of working off debt. Just like in Europe. You loose the war, you are a slave for a specific amount of time until youve paid off your debt to the victor. Now can you understand the mind set of the African tribesmen who sold their slaves to Europe. They were under the impression that the slaves would work off their debt then be released as was the norm all over the world. They did not know that they were contributing to a horrific system that would last over 400 years and then eventually evolve into the even more sophisticated system it is today. So if youre a white associate of mine do not ask me this question again or try to imply that oh your own people were selling you to the Europeans.... as if they did so with malicious intent. Had they known what the Europeans had under their sleeves Im sure they wouldve thought twice about their actions. You need to research war, slavery, economy, government, and societies during these times so you have a better understanding of the complexities of what really went on. Have a nice day people.
