Ok so here is an odd one... Luckily I very rarely have bad canal experiences, this one is not so much bad as it is frustrating at trying to help someone... Tomorrow morning I am going to move my boat around a couple of corners to enjoy an extremely rural spot for a night or two... As it is not far to walk I set off the boat down the towpath just after a holiday boat had gone past. I slowly caught up with them and as I got to my planned mooring spot they started trying to get the boat to the side just downstream. I weighed up the bank and thought I would put a little twig down to mark the join in the corrugated metal so I could see easily exactly where I wanted to moor in the morning. A simple trick. As I was doing this I hear an overly loud voice say Probably trying to scare us possibly in response to a What is he doing?!!! I then walk another hundred feet down the canal to see how much room is at the 48 hour mooring rings... Literal 100 feet from the boat that five of them had still not managed to get to the side of the canal... On my way back past I said to somebody holding the front rope If it is easier there are proper mooring rings literally around the corner I get a thank you etc (How much easier than having to hammer pins in)... The message is shouted down to the back and as I pass once again a voice says overly loudly No you can moor up wherever you want! I normally enjoy being quizzed by holiday boaters about my boat and what is on the canal ahead etc and have never really come across one aggressive person overruling the group! It is rare that I get a chance to be useful on the general canal side and after that I think it is a good job! Sorry for the random and long post but I thought it was worth documenting in some way! It takes all sorts I suppose!
