Ok so you know how Im new to airbrushing? Well that sometimes comes with its own little mishaps so I wanted to share a little tip that has saved two cakes of mine from ruins. Now for some reason I thought the word chocolate or fondant would mean that airbrushing would be fine if there was copha (crisco) on the surface of the cake. This turned out NOT to be the case and airbrushing highlighted the crisco. (Tip 1!!!) I also didnt realise that if you were apply a large mass of colour that it was handy to clean your airbrush out mid project. I was happily airbrushing and getting a beautiful finish when the nozzle filled and there was speckled spray all over my cake. And I persisted which meant more speckles on the cake. After a bit of colourful cake language I continued to spray the cake and applied more colour than I was initially planning. This helped soften the speckles but didnt fix it entirely. I had a bottle of Pearl lustre spray (Dinkydoodle) and liberally coated my cake. The pearl lustre saved what would have been a ruined cake and gave my sky a smooth pearl finish. Crisis averted. Not that I think any of you will need this tip though... but if you do...
