Ok this visual aid I dont use when Aaron is in crisis like I do - TopicsExpress

Ok this visual aid I dont use when Aaron is in crisis like I do with the emotions pages... its a great tool but its a lil more complicated... so I dont use it when Aaron is in meltdown mode or really anxious.. its definitely not a crisis tool... only because at that point its only going to make the situation worse if they cant understand it.. keep it as simple as possible when using crisis tools.. we call this meltdown mode lol this is what I consider a re-think tool.. I pulled the print out off the web.. its an adaption by Kathryn Whitaker from The Incredible Five-Point Scale by Kari Buron Dunn and Mitsubishi Curtis 3/2008.... after Aaron has calmed down I have him 1st do the sheet where the scale is colored in.. once again.. I laminated them so we can use a dry erase marker... at each level... he can draw a picture of what the level looks like too him, what it feels like to him n what he can do to cope... I have him just draw pictures for each level.. the other page... I have him color the thermometer the corresponding colors n then each level has a space to write out.. 3 coping techniques that can be used to help the resent behavior... remember always go through them individually with your ASD child.. first showing them what it looks like(visual) make them say it out loud(verbal) and make them tell you what it means to them(cognitive)... with repetitive use these aids build a crisis plan that your ASD child can learn to rely on.. and can help prevent negative behaviors in the future.. Aaron will now come to me n tell me when he needs the tools and once hes calmed down from melt down mode.. hell come tell me when hes ready for this re-think sheet....
