Okay, here goes. Monday begins a new chapter in my life and career in communications. Im leaving journalism for a moment to try my hand at public relations for My Brothers Keeper, Inc., (not to be confused with President Obamas initiative) in Jackson. Spending four years at The Clarion-Ledger in news and features prepared me for this next phase which Im so excited about! Didnt see this happening so soon, but God deemed me ready to move forward in greatness and service! Writing for three Gannett papers in the past six years afforded me amazing learning experiences. The CL and the Jackson metro area challenged me in many ways, added multimedia skills to my repertoire, and connected me to many great individuals. As communications manager for MBKs Center for Research, Evaluation and Environmental Policy Change, I will spread the word about the nonprofits efforts to denounce health disparities among Mississippians through the media and communities served. This is a new position, and I will do my very best. Being the reflective person I am, I wanted to do a By The Numbers so you can see how busy I was from October 2010 through October 2014: 4 years with The CL 6 beats between The Madison County Herald, Hinds Ledger and CL 121 news and features videos (see them here: https://youtube/user/MadisonCountyHerald/videos) 1 blog called The Burbs 50 reporter notepads 1 deranged stalker by telephone 4 state AP and MPA awards for news and features thousands of miles driven for stories 2 sections of content 4 supervisors who are the bomb: Annie Oeth, Grace Simmons-Fisher, Deborah Skipper, and Steven Ward.
