Okowa Tasks Deltans On Peace, Unity By Momah Maxwell DELTA State People Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the February 28 governorship election, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa has urged Delta to always emphasize unity not ethnicity. Senator Okowa said this during the final of Senator Okowa Unity Football Competition for the 26 wards in Ika federal constituency played at the Ogbe Modern Primary School, Umunede. He promised a responsive government that would create job opportunities, sustain peace and development across the state. Senator Okowa said that his experience in government and clear understanding of Delta State puts him at advantage to tackle the challenges of the state. He emphasized that he represents the sum total of Delta State, noting that Deltans are one people and he was proud to be a Deltan. He assured Deltans that if voted in, by the grace of God, that his government will start from day one affecting the lives of the people, while acknowledging the challenges, he promised he will triumph. On the football tournament, Senator Okowa said grassroots football will be harnessed across the state to bring peace, unity and development, and to demonstrate that Deltans are one people. He charged the sports commission to see how to develop grassroots football, saying that it remains an avenue of discovering talents. Senator Okowa commended the sponsor of the competition, Mr. Sebastian Okoh for the initiative, which he said had brought unity, peace and love among the people of Ika federal constituency. On his part, Mr. Okoh said the football competition was to galvanize grassroots support for Senator Okowa and to create an opportunity to celebrate his vision and commitments to prosperous Delta state. Meanwhile, the football competition which ended goalless after 90 minutes of play between ward 3 in Ika North East Local Government Area and ward 11, Abavo in Ika South Local Government Area, saw ward three defeating Abavo ward during a penalty shot-out and taking home N500,000, ward 11, N300,000 and the third spot Ward 5 taking N200,000 among other prizes won.
