On 11 November 2013 , Mr Soomro explained what is APA and what are its uses. Just ignore the name it appears to me as if its some kind of Mental Illness Guide. Anyways coming back to the topic its just a guide of how to attempt an assignment, thesis or any other documentary in a good and neat manners. . This is a complete guide to APA. . What is the function of APA? 1-Stylish: It tells us about what should be the pattern of our papers ,different things like font etc is included in it. 2-In-Text Citation: It in simple word is the name of the writer and year of the book etc published and where these two things should be written in our assignment. 3-References: It tells us about what should be our way of writing a writer or novelist name at the end of our assignment. . What should be our writing pattern? okay, this is the most difficult thing for me . Literary if you ask me to translate something , i will do it perfectly but when you will say is it a past tense or present indefinite , i am blank there :( , its like my concepts are clear from the scratch .Still i am going to tell you how to sort this thing out. Its simple you have to be formal , think your self as a CR or GR who is going to represent the class, Suppose if someone asks you Is your class coming to the party? you are going to say yes, i think they are of the view that they will come not i am going to come bakio ka pata nai , so here you represent the class so in writing your assignment you have to write as if you are representing someone and that someone is the writer or the book etcetera from where you are taking your material out . Reference is also like that. i)Things you should do like: 1-The study show that 2-Researcher have found that 3-I think 4-I analyzed that 5-The people responded ii)Things you shouldnt do: 1-I found out 2-I know that 3-The participants have been asked and they replied etcetera. . What should be our vocal language in an assignment? 1-Clear: It should be clear , rather then taunting things etc which will point at certain people like we do at facebook.So be clear 2-Concise: it means to be precise. Precise means to be sharply exact, accurate or delimited. In simple word it doesnt mean you have to do precise of your whole assignment in rough work and than make a new copy it means to be accurate in your whole assignment. 3-Plain: As Mr.Khan said Language is a Language not superiority , so keep this in mind. You dont need to tell how marvelous your english is , just be simple . It is a type of a communication process, One merit of a receiver that a sender should know is what is the qualification of a receiver and will he understand if i write French in my letter , the answer is NO. Consider your teacher as a normal student and than start writing your assignment and keep this in mind that he might not get what meaning our word has . For Example lobbying, propaganda is both a positive word and negative word at same time. . What should be our pattern of style of Assignment? 1-It should be typed 2-it should be double spaced a- double space means to have a double space between every word . I was hearing some children saying today that by highlighting all the assignment and than pressing will make it a double spaced automatically. I am not sure about it . 3-it should be on A4 papers. For new to A4 papers there are different type of A4 papers in market i.e of 70gm or 80gm .they are just the weight of the paper not the size of the paper so it depends upon your afford-ability . If you can afford a 100gm A4 paper purchase it or purchase 70gm paper, weight will not affect your assignment. 4- 1 margin on all sides 5- the font size should be 12 as Mr.Soomro suggested 6-The font format will be Times New Roman 7-You should have a title name in the upper left hand of every page and your page number on upper right hand side of every page. . What parts are necessary for our Assignments? Just like as we have attempted our B.A etcetera papers in College , i used to have parts of my answers i.e of Introduction , Behind the seen, main body , causes and consequences , affects and than Conclusion, Our here we have four parts of our assignment i.e : 1-Title Page 2-Abstract 3-Main Body 4-References . Now i am going to tell you about how you have to attempt all the upper mentioned four parts. 1-Title Page : . You have to write five things in total. i)Page Header:(It inclds Title at left and page number at right) Firstly you have to click Insert Page Header and than write the Title of whatever assignment you have , with this thing written before it , just on title page Running Head : e.g Running Head : The Nabeels and you have to write only title on every page excluding the text Running Head: ii)Title of assignment: Write the title of your assignment in the upper half of your page not the mid of the paper but a little above it. iii)Just beneath the title write your name i.e Nabeel Bokhari iv)Just beneath your name write your degree title i.e MSc Replica, i dont thing writing mass comm is okay because its an understood thing. v)Just beneath your degree title write ICS , University of the Punjab . 2-Abstract: . It means the summary of the assignment or critical appreciation if anyone have studied English Literature in Intermediate as i did . or the main story of your assignment , according to APA you can write several paras but according to Mr.Soomro you have write one Paragraph. So you have to tell the main points of your main story in just one paragraph.Do not include your page header on Abstract Page. . 3-Main Body: . It is your whole assignment, i dont need to tell you that.However i am going to tell the points of how you have to attempt it. 1-Start it from Page 3. Its normal , the first page is the title and abstract is on page 2 so definitely and 100% it will automatically start from page 3 lolz 2-Type the Title of your assignment at the centered top of your page. 3- Double spaced, i have explained that before 4- Tell from where you have taken the material , this is called in text citation . 4-Reference: . 1-Put a title of References at the top centered place . 2-Double space reference entries also as you have did in whole assignment 3-Order writers name by alphabetical order 4-Write the reference page, if you have to give reference of my name , you will write Nabeel (2008) etc from the very beginning of the line but if you reach the second line telling the details of my book you have to start the second line by giving some spaces beneath my name.Got my point? and than you have to continue like that ! (writer name at beginning and if his details get into second line you have to give some spaces before continuing from the second line.) . so this was the style of Reference , now lets move to what should be its pattern. . 1-Invert authors name and write them like last name is going to come first and first name at last. e.g if my name is Nabeel Bokhari i am going to write it as Bokhari Nabeel.(so when putting it in alphabetical order you are going to put me in B category that is of Bokhari not in N category that is of Nabeel) 2-Capital. I dont get it quite good today and asked Mr.Soomro about it to repeat it still i am not sure so i am not going to explain it.Consult yourself 3-Capitalize all major words in journal titles.and capitalize it, e.g (THE COMMUNICATION SHIP not The Communication Ship) 4-Do not italicize , underline or put quotes around the Title of your reference . . Completing about how you will do reference page , now we will move to In text Citation . What is In-Text Citation? . Dont get confused by this word. It is actually mentioning of the reference in short form in the middle of your main body. like just with Writer name , year and page number of the reference list) and the rest of the information will be present at the mentioned page number. . I am going to explain it myself one by one not by page by page in APA as its confusing. . i)- As i said earlier it includes three things Writer name, year and page number of reference list. . There are several ways of writing it . v.i.z . (Below format is just for writing quotes as short as of 1 or 2 lines etc) 1- Nabeel(2013) This view is quite wonderful that What government does is correct, they know better than us(p.99). OR 2- It is said that What government does is correct, they know better than us(Nabeel, 2013, p,99). . (Below format is for a summary or a paraphrase which might include a complete paragraph etc) i)Over here you have to provide authors last name and the year of publication after the summary or paraphrase. 1-Though all the teachers are extra ordinary but it appears to me as ,if Mr.Khan turns on his sensor tomorrow i might get deleted (Bokhari, 2013) < this is also a part of summary explained above, this is how you have to explain if you have to write a quotation in a paragraph :/ . Samjh lagi> 1-According to Bokhari and Anjum (2013), A person beauty is judged not by his face but by his heart(p. 99) What is Signal word in In-Text Citation? it is v.i.z 1- According to Nabeel.(2013), Mass Communication is the only sane department in whole PU(p. 99) 2-Nabeel. (2013)) argued that mass Communication is the only sane department in whole PU(p. 99) these examples are just the same as i have given before. So u must be saying what the difference is ? The difference here is that, you see Nabeel whole argument is given with no writer view, if you take a look at (26 lines above from here) you will see that whoever the writer has given his views in it like he said that but here it is saying that .Hope you get my point> Signal para: 1- According to broad minded student Nabeel and Danial (2013), Pakistan should have a good friendship with America(p. 99) Normal Para: 2- Some broad minded students said that Pakistan should have a good friendship with America (Nabeel & Danial, 2013, p. 99) 1-Pakistan and America were once best friend at the time of Ayub Khan , and it was the most golden period of Pakistan (Nabeel, Danial and Ahmed, 2013) or write et al .,if you have to write all the names again and again 2- Pakistan and America were once best friend at the time of Ayub Khan , and it was the most golden period of Pakistan(Nabeel et al ., 2013) the same will go for more than 5 or 6 writers. i)if you have got two writers whose last name are same like take it of me and my brother. My Name is Nabeel Bokhari and my brother name is Ali Bokhari so i will not write like this : (Bokhari, 2013; Bokhari, 2013) but i will write it as: (N.Bokhari, 2013; A. Bokhari, 2013) and if more than one edition of my book is out and you have to mention which one you are talking about.Suppose you want to tell its 2nd edition you have to write (Nabeel, 2013 b , p.99) . If some message has been conveyed to you via a phone call or message or email you will write it as: . (N.Bokhari, personal communication, November 11, 2013) No page number needs to be mentioned because what reference you will give?Will you tell your reader ,your email and its password and tell them to read from there lolz. . If you have read some kind of article from the web you will write it as: According to Nabeel(2013), the Pakistanis are not doing good by standing against America (Let Me In Section , para 4) Write para umber if no page number is available otherwise write page number above.
