On Ebola. Just my thought! Now we have started having a breakthrough. An elegant study (see link below) showed that Ebola through Ebola viral protein 24 compete for the binding site of phosphorylated STAT1 (transducer of interferon signaling) on the nuclear career - Karyopherin 5. This way, it prevents the nuclear transport of STAT1, as such prevent it from binding to the promoters of interferon target genes. However, because the Ebola virus is very vicious and intelligent, it blocks not the transport of cargoes into the nucleus, which could be used for the supply of raw materials needed for its own viral replication. Now this is interesting, because, as the authors rightly suggested, an antibody that could target EVP24 could be useful in fighting the disease. Alternatively, I think a compound that would boost the expression of STAT1 or increase its affinity to karyopherin 5 would definitely help in preventing the nuclear localization of EVP24 and its subsequent influence on the host DNA. See the story here - genengnews/gen-news-highlights/scientists-show-how-ebola-disables-initial-immune-defenses/81250232/ Interestingly, diallyl disulfide - a compound found in garlic can increase the expression of STAT1. I am therefore thinking garlic could probably help cells avoid the notorious EVP24 from docking on STAT1 karyopherin 5 docking site by over expressing STAT1. I would love to see a study test the potential of garlic or diallyl disulfide on EBOLA. I want to believe that it would be exciting! Moreover, it may interest you all to know that garlic and/or diallyl disulfide has a detoxification property, anti-cancer properties, anti-microbial property and can effectively reduce the accumulation of oxidative stress. Cool, isnt it :-D Garlic is definitely a good candidate against Ebola! My thought!!!
