On Friday, May 13, 2011, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Alonzo Ester was driving into his driveway at the 4200 block of Hillcrest Drive in the City of Los Angeles. Ester was returning home after closing his business; a nearby nightclub. Upon his arrival, and while still seated inside his vehicle, Ester was shot multiple times by an unknown suspect. After the shooting, the suspect entered into the victims car and searched the victims pockets as the victim sat in the drivers seat mortally wounded. The suspect exited and ran northbound from the location to an awaiting vehicle. Area residents called 911, and the Los Angeles City Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene. Alonzo Ester was transported to University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Ronald Reagan Medical Center. While at the hospital, Ester succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 3:13 a.m. On July 1, 2011, a witness came forward and told the detective that Dennis Brown had admitted to being the killer. Subsequently, detectives were able to corroborate and confirm the information from the witness was accurate. The defendant pled guilty to charges of Manslaughter and Attempted Robbery, and was sentenced to 16 years in State prison.
