On May 27, 1936, the first Aer Lingus flight inaugurated service between Dublins Baldonnel Airfield and Bristol, Englands Whitchurch Airport, using a six-seater De Havilland 84 Dragon biplane named Iolar (Eagle). The original aircraft was later sold to an English company in 1938 as the airline expanded, and is believed to have been shot down and lost in 1941 near the Scilly Isles during World War II. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aer_Lingus#Early_years
