On Monday Oct. 20, you might have noticed firefighters from Risingsun and Kansas Fire Departments training in the lot south of the Dollar General store. We spent about 3 hours learning some new techniques for vehicle extrication. The members of our department purchased about $25,000 worth of equipment using money donated by local citizens through fund raising efforts like raffles and pancake breakfast. The Wood county EMA office provided the lighting for the evening and ProMedica donated the car and trucks for us to practice on. After our training was completed Chuck and Kyrt had the idea that we should put the car out by the road with a sign (donated by the Wood Co. Sheriffs office) to remind people not to text and drive. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) you are six times more likely to be involved in an accident from texting than drinking. While we always enjoy getting our new tools out to play we dont want to have to use them to rescue you. Please be careful and dont drive while distracted.
