On October 26, 1996, the statue of Emily Prudden, founder of what is now Pfeiffer University, was unveiled. It was created by North Carolina artist and sculptor Bill Eleazer. The statue was commissioned shortly after the decision was made for Pfeiffer to become a University in May of 1996. The statue was given in honor of Mary Bethea, retired Dean of Women students, Susan Carmichael, retired Professor of Religion, and Mary Fisher Floyd, retired Professor of Religion and the person who began researching Emily Prudden in the early 1960s.
