On Sunday Ill be hiking El Capitan in Yosemite with a strong group of renegades that believe that all of us, pitching in together, will get us to our goal: a cure for histiocytosis by 2021. They believe the grueling day of hiking will somehow mimic the suffering of those affected by the little known LHS or Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis. I was introduced to this group in college working on a story about a boy going through experimental chemotherapy treatments to combat his LHS. This is an orphan disease which receives no federal funding or attention. All donations and support are from grassroots organizations such as Hike for a Cure which started over ten years ago hiking Yosemites Half Dome as a symbolic gesture. I met Patrick 6 years ago as he played in his hospital bed, I plan to stand with him on the top of El Capitan. His strength is my inspiration. Your contribution will go directly to research and to the doctors fighting to find a cure. We see these doctors every year and in many cases we hike with them.
