On Tuesday I asked my Canadian Short Story professor if I could send her a short story and get a critique. She graciously said I could do that, so I’ll send her something after the exam is over. We discussed Timothy Taylor’s “The Resurrection Plant”, about a boy whose Jewish grandparents converted to Christianity to escape Nazi persecution and though his mother was raised as a Lutheran, he wants to become Jewish. It’s set in Edmonton, Alberta in 1976. The plant is a type that closes in on itself and looks dead in dry periods but it’s really in hibernation. I think the plant is a metaphor for the family’s Jewish heritage. That night I worked at OCADU for Heather Frise. The booking said that I was supposed to work in room 1440, which turns out to be a utility closet. Apparently the teacher thought that was the room number when she asked for a model. Heather was in extreme back pain all through the class. She said she’s been going to see a chiropractor. I suggested that she do yoga and go to a sports clinic instead. During the break she played some music by Robert Fripp and Brian Eno so I told her about my meeting Fripp and she said she’d met him too, because some friends of hers had made a film about him. When I got home I studied for Wednesday’s test and went to bed.
