On behalf of The NEAR Foundation N.Siva, Mr.N.Maga Maga Belliappan and Dr.K.Somasundaram participated in the workshop on Sustaining Small Family Growers in the Nilgiris in the International Mountain Day 2014 organised by Nilgiri Documentation Center with HADP on 11th December, 2014 at Fortune Resort, Sulyvan Court, Ooty. Dr.N.Sundaradevan, IAS (Retd), Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Tamilnadu, Mr.Srinivas R Reddy, IFS, Project Director, HADP, Mr. R.Ambalavanan, IAAS, Director, Tea Board, members of Small Farmers were participated. Mr.N. Siva, The NEAR Foundation pointed out the following prime demands in the workshop: 1. Frame government policy to reduce and control organic chemicals in the Nilgiris. 2. Promote Organic Kitchen Gardening to improve health condition of the Nilgiris people. 3. Promote Agro-based EDP to rural youth of the Nilgiris to control migration of rural youth to urban areas.
