On my bus ride home I sat next to a guy about my age, his girl, and their two little kids. After several blocks of foul language and improper parenting techniques, we got off at the same stop. As soon as they get off the bus, the man intentionally dropped his empty Pringles can on the ground. So, like any fed up citizen would, I picked it up and handed it back to him saying, “Excuse me, sir, you dropped this.” He looked dazed, so I finished him with, “Show a little respect, there’s a garbage can on every corner.” As I walked away, head held high and sporting a crooked smile, I could hear his girl bust out laughing. “Ooooh! He got you!” she said, “That boy got you gooood!” This caught the kids’ attention. They asked what was going on, so their mom explained how their dad had just been burned. I turned around to catch the kids’ reaction, expecting giggles, but they just grabbed the Pringles can from their dad and with stern looks, explained to him what their teachers had taught them. The one said, “Littering is bad for the Earth.” The other followed with, “And that’s where we live, Dad, jeez.” +10pts to Curt for cleaning up the streets +100pts to each of those kids who just might, despite their parents, turn out alright.
