On this Day in Weather History..... *In 1915 the low of 43 degrees established a record low for the month of August at Dodge City. *IN 1934...A tornado moved southeast from northeast of Ogallah KS. Barns and outbuildings were destroyed on a half dozen farms. *In 2003, tragedy struck the Kansas Turnpike, when the deadly Jacob Creek Flash Flood inundated a one quarter mile section of the interstate, 12 miles southwest of Emporia. Seven vehicles were swept off the turnpike. One was a minivan with a family of six, of which five perished. A sixth fatality resulted when a mans vehicle stalled.
