On this date in Rock & Roll History, March 23, 1973, British progressive rock band, Pink Floyd released their 8th studio album, The Dark Side Of The Moon in the UK, a concept album themes include conflict, greed, the passage of time, and mental illness, the latter partly inspired by the bands founding member Syd Barretts deteriorating mental state. The album was released in the U.S. a few week earlier on March 1, 1973. The record was an immediate success, topping the Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart for one week. It subsequently remained in the charts for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988. With an estimated 50 million copies sold, it is Pink Floyds most commercially successful album and one of the best-selling albums worldwide. It is my favorite Pink Floyd album....It happened 41 years ago today...Enjoy this masterpiece...There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact its all dark.
