On this date in the history of human beings (and the man who would be king), in 1934, Jesse Garon Presley came into this world stillborn. His identical twin brother, Elvis Aaron Presley, however, survived and went on to live quite the storied life. Sure, there were other folks who had more influence on society and culture, but not too very many. The man was a phenomenon, in every sense of the word. He conquered music and film, and although he never had a regular TV series, practically every appearance he ever made on live TV was guaranteed to draw absurdly high ratings. He was called the King of Rock and Roll, but he was much more. He was a crooner, a country singer, a gospel singer, a soul singer, and a one-man comedy show. Because of The Kings birth 80 years ago today, a lot of other famous births get ignored, like Soupy Sales (1926), Bob Eubanks (1938), Stephen Hawking (1942), and David Jones (aka David Bowie - 1947), but back to Elvis. Even when he messes up the words, the man is a smoldering wonder to behold on stage... Check it. This is from the rehearsal for Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite in 1973.
