On this day in music history: May 27, 1975 - Venus And Mars, the fourth studio album by Wings is released. Produced by Paul McCartney, it is recorded at Sea Saint Studios in New Orleans, LA and Wally Heider Studios in Los Angeles, CA from January - April 1975. Issued as the follow up to the hugely successful Band On The Run, it will mark the first appearence of new band members Jimmy McCullough (guitar) and Geoff Britton (drums). However, Britton will only remain with the band for six months (playing on only three tracks) and is replaced by Joe English who will play on the remaining tracks. The sessions produce a wealth of material including non LP songs such as My Carnival (B-side of Spies Like Us) and Lunch Box/Odd Sox (B-side of Coming Up) which will be released years later. The project will also be McCartneys first release after re-signing with Capitol Records after dissolution of The Beatles Apple Records label earlier in the year. The album will spin off three hit singles including Listen To What The Man Said (#1 for 1 week on July 19, 1975) and Venus And Mars/Rock Show (#12 Pop). Venus And Mars will peak at number one on the Billboard Top 200 for 1 week on July 19, 1975, and is certified Platinum in the US by the RIAA.
