Unisa Radio is looking...for Junior Radio Journalist Type: Volunteer Province: Gauteng City: Pretoria Education level: Diploma /relevant degree Job level: Junior Own transport/license : Yes Duration: 6 months intensive • Job description Unisa Radio at the Sunnyside Pretoria Campus is looking for students interested on becoming radio journalists to join a very dynamic news team. The main purpose of the role is to produce relevant, compelling and factually correct UNISA and related news and feature content for the broadcast to deadline on a weekly basis Key responsibilities: To research, write record and manage the production of content for UNISA Radio Newsroom. Successful candidate will need to: • Write quality news script for broadcast and adhering to strict deadlines • Voice over news script • Required to do interviews both for radio programme • Required to assist and support various show producers staff • Good time management skills and the ability to multitask effectively and follow through with tasks given • Work closely with the head of programming to identify newsworthy events and issues for the radio station • Attend daily dairy meetings Requirements • Degree in Communication Science, Journalism or related field • At least one year writing experience • Valid Drivers license (non-negotiable) • Solid understanding of the English language • Astute copy editing and proof reading skills • Computer skills with MS word and Outlook • Audio editing skills will be advantageous Personal Skills/Attributes • A passion for writing and journalism • Be well read and have a hunger for information • Love radio • An awareness of current events, trends and internet memes • Experience with a variety of social media platforms • Be able to take on the voice and personality of specific clients and personas • Understanding of what constitutes newsworthy copy that journalists will publish • Strong research, analysis, editing and interviewing skills • Ability to work independently and take initiative. • Willing to work over-time and some weekends. • Willing to go above and beyond delegated tasks.
