One of our students is involved with the Refugee Support Services - TopicsExpress

One of our students is involved with the Refugee Support Services here in Hamilton. Arriving next Friday to be re-settled in the Tron will be a Burmese family, a Colombian family, and ten Afar men from Eritrea. We will be directly responsible for three of the Afar men, setting up a house for them, registering them with a doctor, assisting them with ESOL classes, and basically orienting them to Hamilton and to NZ "culture". They have come from some quite horrific situations If any of you have any furniture or unused household items in relatively good condition that you would like to donate to go into the houses of the refugees, we would really appreciate them! We need big stuff like couches and beds, as well as little stuff like cutlery, linen, and appliances, and everything in between!!! We should get the keys for the houses early next week, and have until Thursday night to clean and get everything in. Eeeek! Items that apparently are particularly hard to find are curtains, curtain rails, vacuum cleaners, lawn-mowers, HEATERS (apparently they are finding it freezing in Mangere!), Please feel free to bring in any items here to work, or, for large items, I can arrange collection from your place. Let me know if you have any questions, and please share this with everyone you know who might be able to help. Thanks so much! If you can help please email Lynnelle on lynnellejellyman@hotmail God bless you heaps,
