One of the great Greek scholars said that Christs humanity was not - TopicsExpress

One of the great Greek scholars said that Christs humanity was not the humanity of one person. In Him, all humanity was gathered together so that when He obeyed the law and when He died on the cross, it was not one man obeying and dying instead of all men but all men obeyed and died in one Man. The death of Christ, the obedience of Christ, was a corporate death and a corporate obedience. Hence, the gospel is not legal fiction in accordance with the accusation of those who opposed the Reformation. It is made clear in 2 Corinthians 5:14 that when one died, all died. On the cross, it was not one Man dying instead of, all men even though the Bible does use that phrase “instead of.” But when we interpret that statement in the context of Pauls theology, we discover that Christ could die instead of all men because all men were IN HIM. This is something difficult for us to understand but this is Hebrew logic. In 1 Corinthians 1:30 we read that God put us, all mankind, into Christ. God made Christ to be our wisdom, our righteousness, our redemption, our everything. As we turn to this passage in Romans 5:15 to 18, we are laying the very foundation to Christ our Righteousness. Many scholars today are admitting that the “In Christ” motif, which is brought out in this passage is the central theme of Pauls theology. It is the core of the message of righteousness by faith.
