One of the greatest perks of being self-employed is that I get to make all of my own business decisions, within reason. One of the best decisions I can make is to step outside my business woman mind, and sink comfortably into my mommy mind. Recently, that happened as I read a blog of a local couple that was raising money to fund the adoption of a sweet baby boy. Having a few friends who adopted, I know (from a distance) what a whirlwind those first few weeks are following the placement, and I also know that for most families, photos are the furthest thing from their minds. So I reached out to this couple, praying I wouldnt sound like a crazy person in my email, and said How can I help? It turns out, they wanted photos of their adoption placement. So I held my breath right along with them for those last few weeks before baby Lincoln was placed into their arms forever, and I trotted off to Gladney in Fort Worth to photograph the big day. Im a big believer that there are opportunities to be a helper in every day of our lives... sometimes you just have to send the email and hope you dont sound crazy.
