One of the greatest pleasures of growing older happens when, seemingly by coincidence, you reconnect with an influential friend, teacher, or colleague after decades; and you find that the person you knew and respected back then is still essentially the same person, just with a bit deeper résumé. Its like a delayed confirmation of your instincts all those years ago that there was something very special going on. So I discovered that Bud Beyer and I will both be presenting sessions at the Texas Music Educators Association conference in February, and Im looking forward to seeing him again. In case you dont know Bud, he brought the world of non-verbal communication in mime to the teaching of conducting in the 1980s, and so much more. Fascinating comparison of the worlds of theater and music. Take a half hour to watch:
