One way or another, we are stuck with our Malaysian citizenship - TopicsExpress

One way or another, we are stuck with our Malaysian citizenship since most of us are not millionaires with a Swiss bank account. The Peoples Republic signed a treaty with Malaysia not many years ago officially proclaiming that the Chinese people of Malaysia are not Chinese citizens, and we will not extend the protection and citizenship of the Peoples Republic to these people henceforth - Our Motherland has forsaken us. Sun Yatsen who asked our ancestors to fund the Glorious Revolution would be turning in his grave. The only reason the Chinese in Malaysia keep on funding Chinese schools is because we inherited the legacy of our ancestors who has the full intention to return to the Motherland. Now we are funding Chinese for the stupid, vague reason of cultural tradition. I am glad the Chinese today have stopped sending children to Chinese schools, because it is high time we recognize the fact we cannot return to China. Start speaking BM properly. Yes, Chinese schools were created to groom our descendants for the readiness to return to China - it is now a defunct institution. Recognizing the fact we cannot return to China is not the same as hating my ethnic heritage. I am bluddy hell proud of my heritage. In fact, I am so proud, I have dropped the name Tommy and started telling people to please say my name in the Cantonese language with the proper 9-Cantonese intonation system. Mandarin is not my mother tongue and in fact no Hokkien, Hakka and Teochew should send their children to Chinese school because they never teach their native tongues and the literature of their original cultures. If there should be Chinese schools, it should be teaching the history and cultural heritage of the childrens respective cultural and dialect heritage. Not the Chinese syllabus from Pre-Communist China. You should study what our Chinese schools are teaching our children. This is why we have stopped sending children there. People always say how good Singapore is. Singapore is the first to recognize the idiocy of the Chinese school institution and burn it as one of their first founding, patriotic policies. Seriously, if you would think about the concept of protecting our traditions and cultural heritage, Chinese schools of today would be doing the complete opposite. Hokkien people should be teaching their children about Fujian history, Min opera and poetry and the struggles and glory of the Min peoples. While Cantonese people should study about Cantonese opera and poetry and the history of the Yue peoples. If you do these, you would then genuinely be protecting your ethnic groups traditions and cultural heritage - and not the heritage of the Peoples Republic of China. Mandarin is like the baby of the Chinese languages - it is so new and artificial and constructed - and it is only good to unite the peoples of the Peoples Republic of China - not to unite Malaysians. Yes, the language that I speak at home is one the most ancient languages in the world - Cantonese. I am not proud to be Malaysian. I am not proud to be Chinese. But I am bluddy proud I am Cantonese with a Cantonese-sounding name to boot, because it has a far-richer cultural history and significance. It all boils down to the Chinese here refusing to speak BM and failure to assimilate. Any ethnic minority in the rest world who settled in other countries very quickly abandoned their mother languages and assimilated. But not us here. Hence the racial killings, hence the racial politics today that created big govt that is too powerful to topple. We the people provided the reason that created big govt that is corrupt and unjust. The only way to fight is to befriend your Malay neighbor today and speak their language - no need convert, no need marry their daughter - just be their friends and visit them often. One of my friends had an interesting experience visiting Taiwan. When he introduced himself as Malaysian Chinese, the cabbie basically scolded him for introducing himself as a Chinese. Because when we first read the Rukun Negara to the Jalur Gemilang, we are Malaysians first and foremost and nothing else. But I would not be the first person to laud about nationalism and patriotism, because in our times and age, these concepts are obsolete and causes for war and murder. If you have to be proud, be proud of your achievements that benefitted the human race and world peace, not the things you are born into. Because too often we have defended blindly about the things we are born into and committed murder and worse sins in our histories. At the end of this, what I am trying to say is whichever side of the fence you are on, you are both wrong, because you have failed to use reason and intellect enough to recognize that the real enemy is the fence, not your neighbor!
