One way to win over people is to identify commonly held interests - TopicsExpress

One way to win over people is to identify commonly held interests and beliefs and emphasize those over strongly held opinions. Opinions back people into corners and cause them to become even more entrenched. To persuade someone of your viewpoint, try something different than a full frontal attack. Help that person recognize before your point is made that they may be uncomfortable upon learning that certain positions they hold may not be as absolute as they think. One way to move a person beyond this point before challenging them is to explain that you understand it is extremely uncomfortable to have long- and strongly-held beliefs debunked and that it is ok to feel this way. It is an evolutionary process of growth and maturity and we all go through it. One of our goals must be to reach out beyond our own comfort zone to bring more into the flock. We must win more elections to fix America!
