One year ago today I was in the ER at ECM Hospital wondering what was wrong with me. Pneumonia, Flu, Stress, or something else. Everyone in the ER was running and poking me, hanging stuff around my bed, calling others to come and assist. Im thinking in my mind, What is going on! The ER Dr comes into the room and says Youre having a heart attack, whos your heart Dr? and I tell him I dont have one! Moms in the hallway and hollers Get Dr Lango, she is a great heart Dr. So that is who they called. Dr Lango showed up about 20 minutes later and started asking me many questions. The one I remember is How much do you Smoke? and I answered 1 pack a day, maybe more. Dr Lango then informs me that her patients dont smoke and I will quit immediately. I have not had a cigarette since that morning (Yay!). I remember Dr Lango sitting in the ER room for about 5 more minutes and asking more questions when a nurse comes into the room and says Ill come back in a few minutes. Dr says Nope! We will talk in the elevator! My mind starts racing, What in the world is going on! The nurses roll me upstairs to the CCIU unit where they start poking me again and one of them pulls the sheet back and says You still have your boots on! and your clothes They start pulling everything off of me and putting it in a bag, I tell them I can do that. But they holler back at me and say No, you just lay there and we will take care of everything! Oh Boy! That was an experience, ladies trying to get my boots and clothes off and me laying on my back. Not fun! About 15 minutes later they get me to the Cath Lab and put die in one of my veins and Dr Lango says to the other nurses in the room Yall look at this, his right artery is 100% blocked! How did he walk in here? Little did she know I drove I ask the Dr If she could fix me and the she says I think so, let me get started. Its kind of weird laying there on a table while people push stuff up your vein and you watch it on the TV. After a few minutes Dr Lango says There, that opened it up! and immediately I can tell a difference. Im breathing easier and I dont have any pain anymore. It was a weird feeling knowing that a cable is being inserted from your waist to your heart and the Dr is pulling it in and out. After about 30 minutes, Dr Lango leans over and tells me Everything is good and you are going to be OK! After 4 days in the hospital and 1 year later, I can say Wow! They did a great job! Had it not been for family, friends, co-workers and all the personnel at ECM hospital, I may not be in as good shape as I am today. Each one of them helped me get over this health issue and get me back on my feet. I feel so much better. Loving life for what it is, A gift and Im thankful for each day that I have. EricD.
