One year ago today, January 17th, 2013, we had a house fire. We lost the majority of our belongings and were only moments from losing our four boys, the two little ones being asleep. We did have some items saved in a separate storage unit, however nothing in the fire was salvageable. When we rushed in to rescue our four boys aged 2-7, the other half of the building was fully engulfed including exploding petrol and paint cans. A few minutes later as I ran back inside with hopes to save precious items, it was too late – the place was full of smoke and intense heat. On night one we needed everything from toothbrushes to nappies (diapers). We walked away in the clothes we were wearing and either bare foot or in jandals (flip flops). Within hours we had a place to stay for several nights and an op shop (second hand store) opened its doors to us, giving us a free shop for all six of us. On day two the meals, clothing and toys started flooding in. By day three, money was already coming in from many of you, locally and from abroad. By day four a portion of insurance kicked in and we were then put up for temporary accommodation in a resort. We exhausted the best part of two months just replenishing and rebuilding basic resources and systems. What a start to a new year! This video is a tribute to Jesus and to the amazing ones who walked with us through this past year. Thank you to all those of you who loved us, supported us, called or text or emailed us, sent money and prayed for us. Just as our boys were scooped up and out, so we as a family were very quickly scooped up by all of you. I believe that although it came within moments of severe burns and death, our Father was not allowing any of us to be harmed. Not one of our children came out even smelling like smoke. 2013 was a year of external fire and internal fire. It was a year in which we moved countries twice and moved house 13 times. Please forgive us if perhaps, we didnt communicate as much as we might have normally ;). We have high hopes for 2014! Never once, did we ever walk alone. Never once, did You leave us on our own. You are faithful. God, You are faithful. The sound track, Never Once has been used with full permission by Matt Redman himself. This track is part of the album, 10,000 Reasons and can be purchased on iTunes. We highly recommend it.
