:::::Open Discussion:::: Due to the amount of ORV related accidents, I feel that we as riders need to figure out a way to help prevent these accidents. If nothing is done I fear that more than likely if these accidents continue to happen our riding areas are going to be shut down. Sadly, a large amount of injuries are due to the lack of use of Proper Riding Gear and common sense. Yes, Helmets, Gloves, and Goggles can be pretty expensive, but suffering from an injury due to being under equipped can be just a costly and may even cause death. First, I propose to implement the Ride safe, Ride Often campaign, Justin David Wilkes came up with at all of our riding areas. One way to ensure riders have proper equipment is to have designated area where individuals who have forgotten their helmet or do not currently have one could check one out and return it at the end of their ride, same goes for gloves etc... This would have to be set up on an honor system until it is more structured hoping that riders do not just run off with helmets. In short, coming up with an equipment rental location near riding areas would be a great start to safer riding. Secondly, With the ever growing amount of SXS, Quads, and Dirt Bikes riding at places such as Appalachia Bay a directional system would help reduce the amount of head on collisions. This can simply be done with a flag system or directional arrows to help navigate riders down a safe path not having to worry if someone is going to come ripping around the corner. Though this may be hard to accomplish, I feel that it would make it a lot more safe riding experience for riders of any skill level. We could even have certain trails designated for SXS, Quads/Dirt bikes. In conclusion, The most important thing to consider here is we are having far too many riders getting hurt and it is up to us to look out for one another and make sure that we are riding safe. I would greatly appreciate any feed back that you all may have on this matter. Thank you all for your time and I look forward to hearing what you have to say.
