Operation International Breakfast convened for the first time this - TopicsExpress

Operation International Breakfast convened for the first time this morning. Yesterday over Ks usual breakfast of egg-in-the-nest, he asked what the biggest city in the world is. We guessed Tokyo, then googled it. Yes. Tokyo. Then he said he wondered what the Japanese eat for breakfast. I guessed fish and rice, and a quick search verified that, as well as nori, pickles (umeboshi), and miso soup. I decided wed have a Japanese breakfast today. Given its a school morning, I didnt want to do anything elaborate, but we at least had to have the fish, so I picked some up. I already had an unopened package of nori, believe it or not. I got up a little earlier today to put rice in the steamer. Then I poached the fish in lemon juice, cut some nori sheets into quarters, got out the jar of dill pickle chips (our version of pickles), and sliced a tomato. And we three sat and enjoyed a breakfast that was, for us, a departure. We made little rice rolls with our nori sheets, and put pickles and fish in them and dipped them in some Tamari soy sauce. I pronounced them Japanese burritos. K asked for some milk, and then I was like, Doh! We should have had green tea! Oh well. Next time. K is not usually a big fan of rice, but he said he really likes it for breakfast. He wants to do this more often, having international breakfasts. I wonder what the next culture will be?
