Oppathinoppam - Empowering Dalits and Adivasis Onam Celebrations 2014.. Onam Celebrations 2014 for the Oppathinoppam (Empowering Dalits and Adivasis) Members was made remarkable while they danced and celebrated with an awesome feast with the famous South Indian Actress Miss.Nila, organised by the Nilambur Municipality. The realization of and determination to bring the Dalits and Adivasis on par with the mainstream community pawed way to introspect and investigate. The result were that they had to be reached on several ground, from Education, Health, Sanitation, Homes even Nutrition. The Nilambur Municipality presented an action plan to get this program rolling to several agencies. This sector of our Society has been given ample encouragement and support for children to be educated. Students with different abilities have been recognized. Facilitators and Teachers have been specially trained to provide the support system to students. A number of resource centre have been put in place to have maximum impact. Houses have been built for the homeless and sanitation being a priority, the people is education on this and its effects on health. Medical Camps are conducted to not only assess their medical needs but to provide expert medical attention as well as medication is provided free of cost. ‘Oppathinoppam’ is a unique social intervention program by the Nilambur Grama Panchayath and later carried on by Nilambur Municipality both under the leader ship of Mr.Aryadan Shoukath implemented with the support and contribution from the people cutting across political, social and religious barriers.
