Oscars. This was an amazing year for movies. Ive seen 6 of the Best Picture films so far. Four of these movies are now amongst my favorite movies of all time - American Hustle, Dallas Buyers Club, 12 Years a Slave, and The Wolf of Wall Street. My pick to win would be 12 Years a Slave. I also saw Captain Phillips - good movie, and Nebraska - wait for cable, just meh. Saw all the Best Actor performances. Bruce Dern was OK. Bale was great, more of an ensemble cast, so I put him 4th. All of the other 3 were truly exceptional. You could tell DiCaprio had an amazing amount of fun making this movie, and, despite Titanic, he really is a fine actor, but Im thinking it will be down to the other two, McConaughey and Ejiofor. Only saw Amy Adams and Cate Blanchett amongst the women. Cate Blanchett nailed it. Blue Jasmine starts off as tragi-comedy that turns into bleak tragedy as she goes insane to escape her reality. Blue Jasmine is great cinema, should have been on the Best Picture list, Woody Allen or not. American Hustle is worth seeing just to see Amy Adams, but Blanchett is better. Saw all the Best Supporting Actors. Couldnt go wrong with any of them. Fassbender was my favorite, insanely violent as he quotes scripture. Jonah Hill was hilarious in Wolf of Wall Street. Jared Leto nailed a difficult part in Dallas Buyers Club. Bradley Cooper got the 70s just right in American Hustle. Abdi carried Captain Phillips as the Somali pirates leader. Jonah Hill is the Hollywood insider, the one that not only acts but makes movies, so I wouldnt be surprised to see the Academy suck up to him like they did for Argo for Affleck last year. If not, Fassbender or Leto would be my prediction. Saw all the Best Supporting Actresses except Julia Roberts. Should be Nyongo from 12 Years a Slave, but Jennifer Lawrence stole every scene she was in in American Hustle, and shes the it girl right now
