Our Mission Statement So I guess you want to know what it’s all about…what’s the deal. Well here it is. Jake’s Away Café is about change. Changing the way you think about food. But that’s just the beginning. It is much more than that. Change is a funny force when you think about it. Its attack strategy can vary drastically. On one hand it can be under your control; there you are, all set in your life, following a straight path, minding your business and WHAM! Change hits you right in the face. Startling you, confusing you, and disrupting your path. On the other hand it has the ability to slowly attack. Where you can look back and see it right behind you, slowly, ever so slowly creeping up on you and there is nothing you can do to stop it. Tormenting you. Distracting you. And then it hits you. Surrounding you like water in the deep end of a pool. Flowing all around you. You can’t push it away because it just flows throw your fingers and right back at you. You can kick and punch but it just absorbs your every blow. Lets face it… you will get tired long before it will. It has the power to cause mental and physical pain. It can cause headache, muscle pain, chest pain, fatigue, stomachache, and sleeping problems. All from an invisible force we all call change. Now some of us love change. We thrive on it; the new feelings and challenges it provides. It drives us…making us stronger, smarter, more experience in life. Because, honestly, that’s what it’s there for. Without change we would have no means of learning or understanding who we are or what we can do. Change brings out our nature abilities we may or may not know we have and forces them to the surface. Without change we limit who we are to the set path, that straight line of life, where we are only able to ask ourselves the question, “What if?” Change separates the weak from the strong, the leaders from the followers, the existing from the extinct. So what do we do? We attack it. That’s right, you heard me. We go after it first because as strong as it is on the offense it has a very weak defense. Its ability to surround us like water is also its weakness. If you can’t beat it, you must control it. Your panicking in the pool only gets you tired, until you’re too tired to fight and you end up sinking. Easy solution…don’t fight it, control it. Stop panicking, calm down and step back out from the deep end of the pool. As you slowly recede you will be amazed at what you see. That deep water that tormented you and exhausted you is now a quiet, still holding of water. You will see the simple change from panic to control. From then on, you can control it. Water is one on the strongest forces on this earth but it can be controlled. Even raging water that can destroy entire buildings can be harnessed and used to power cites. It can be contained and focused. That same water that almost wiped out an entire village can now be turned into and used as energy. What is the drastic difference? Control. You must be in control of it. Change can do the same thing. It can kill you or make you stronger. When we attack it, we are in control. We can focus that power of change. The energy can be more manageable. It can cause a click in you brain that make connections you never had before. Changing your straight line thought process to a spider web of possibilities. Once you allow yourself to step back out of the pool and look around you, the view is endless. And that’s why I am here. I stood back from that pool and saw the view. The change that almost killed me has taught me how to swim. It forced out my natural abilities. It opened my thoughts to a spider web of possibilities. My first step back from the water was becoming a vegetarian. Shortly after it lead to becoming a vegan. And then, almost simultaneously, it lead to becoming a cruelty free vegan. That first step was so easy and it lead to so much more that I want to share it with you. Hoping that it’s the start for you to step back from the pool and see your own endless view of possibilities. I am not looking to paint the view for you. You must see and create that for yourself. All I am looking to do is help you make the connection and let you create your own spider web of possibilities. ~ Erik Larson, Co-Founder of Jakes Away Cafe
