Our Wednesday 22nd Track of the Day is Mic Righteous - Intro. Originally performed exclusively for SB.TV in 2012, this freestyle was released in his 2013 Open Mic EP. Rocky Takalobigashi, a.k.a. Mic Righteous, is the latest in a new generation of of British hip-hop talent. Before you listen to his music, though, you must know the man. His parents had fled Iran during the 1979 revolution and moved to England in the early 80s in order to create a new life. However like many immigrant families of the time, they quickly fell into a cycle of crushing poverty, increasing desperation and drug abuse. With his mothers swift departure and brothers battling addiction, Mics father was sentenced to a considerable time in prison which left Mic at home with just his 13 year old sister at 10. When she turned 18, Mics sister left Margate to get a degree. He was left home alone, forgotten about by society, at just 14 years old. No longer attending school and becoming consumed by isolation, Mic became fanatical and obsessive about writing. Times were so hard but nothing would stop Mic writing; while listening to his brother Vaheeds old walk-man cassette player Mic would go to the extremes of engraving lyrics into old cereal boxes with stones from the pavement outside his house. For a long time his writings remained private. This was until Mic heard of a studio in a local squat which soon become Mics second home. This is where Mic met the owner of the studio Jack Lambert who in time became his manager. Within weeks Mic had recorded over 30 tracks and Jack could see massive potential in his fast development. With this help, both professionally and personally, Mics ability flourished and so did his social skills enabling him to hustle and work part time jobs from labour work to answering phones in a taxi office. Mic was keen to stress that rap is more a medium to put a across a point of view, and got frustrated about the reputation that the media seemed to appropriate rappers with, Rap music got itself in such a state where to be a rapper you had to be a millionaire that kills people on a daily basis. Rap music originated as a means for oppressed people to have a voice, a dream. This is what my aim is, to give rap back to the people and I believe the people are ready... Now with over 2 million YouTube hits, his growing online presence was noticed by top UK producer NaughtyBoy and in April 2011 Mic secured a publishing deal with NauthyWorld/Sony ATV. Mic has been performing tirelessly all over the UK, including opening for hip-hop legends The Game, J Cole, Wretch 32, Devlin, Lowkey, Immortal Technique and many others. This year has also seen Mic collaborating with acts across the whole spectrum of popular music from Hard-Fi, Natty and Cher Lloyd to rap super-group Slaughterhouse, currently signed to Eminems Shady Records label. This track gives an honest and brutal insight into the world of Mic Righteous. If ever there was someone who deserves the utmost respect, not just for his service to the hip-hop culture and his unbelievable music, but also for overcoming the remarkable challenges he faced in life, its Mic. At Bubble_Rap on STAR Radio we wish him all the best. Please like his page at Mic Righteous Official and check out the song.
