Our alumni Silver is loving a new toy he got in the mail from his former foster mom Charlene. He is a very special boy. Silver is so near and dear to our hearts here. If you cheer for the underdog youll like Silvers adoption story. He had the odds stacked against him. Silver is a dog that the majority of rescues will not take. He is a an older boy, probably between 7-8 that came to us under very tragic circumstances. His previous owner, Joanna loved him dearly. She was diagnosed with cancer and fought courageously. In fact, she had inquired about fostering for us in better times just before she became ill. Joanna was facebook friends myself and one of our devoted volunteers and supporters, Charlene. Joannas health began to decline. As her illness progressed, Silver became increasingly stressed. Joanna began to worry about what would happen to her beloved boy. She knew he was not the kind of dog that would do well with just anyone. He was not getting the activity he was accustomed to and we all know Weimaraners are such intelligent and sensitive dogs, they KNOW when things are not right. Joanna eventually went on hospice care and Silvers once quiet home suddenly had nurses and other healthcare workers coming and going daily. Silver bit at a nurse one day and thankfully she was not hurt. This made an already stressful and sad time even worse. Joanna didnt know what to do. She knew most rescues will not consider taking a dog with a bite history or behaviors like Silvers. She contemplated using all her energy to take him to be humanely euthanized, but knew he was not a lost cause, he just needed the RIGHT home with the RIGHT people. Can you imagine being in that situation and the worry you feel knowing your time is limited and the uncertainty of what would happen to your dog you love? Charlene lived close to where Joanna did and offered to foster him. Charlene and her husband John saved his life. Joanna was so relieved. We obviously cant have just anyone foster a dog with a history like Silvers. Thankfully Charlene and John are very experienced with the breed, we also know and trust them. After an initial adjustment period, Silver was fine. He flourished with their leadership, care and training. Silvers adoption was even more bittersweet than most because Charlene and Jon were actually away on vacation when Silver was adopted. He had been staying with our other trusted friends/volunteers Cindy and Tim. He charmed their family as well and they too found out what a lovable boy he is. Silver has a wonderful family of his own now! They are great people and love him dearly. Their last weimaraner had passed away and when his new mom Amy read Silvers story and saw him she knew he was meant for her family. The rest is history! He is a cutie indeed! If you agree, give him a like!
