Our company would like to pay advertising fees. The problem is what we do does not fit into the current mechanisms that would allow us to do so. Regulation is something we are asking for! Outdoor media companies operate on a winner take all bidding process that in our opinion is simply a way to pay for a monopoly. This system is not good for advertisers who do not benefit from competition. Fair competition does not seem to apply to the out door media industry and our governments seem happy to play along. This makes it impossible for smaller companies to even enter the outdoor advertising market as these companies pay millions of dollars to win bids. This does not stop us from placing our communication messages but it does force us to operate in a way that goes against the very principles of our business and makes it difficult for advertisers to chose sustainable forms of communication. Protecting the interest of all business and encouraging competition was once part of what made the capitalistic system work. This monopolistic system may work for cities who want to earn as much from their public spaces but it is not in the best interest of advertisers or the general public who have no voice in which companies win the use of our private spaces. Once again, its all about the money, while it should be all about what is best for the people and those advertisers who buy outdoor media.
