Our friends at the Bighorn Institute (who shared these photos with us) have alerted us that in the past month there have been a number of bighorn sheep sightings near Highway 74. Sheep are browsing close to the highway, so be careful when driving the section between the National Monument Visitor Center and Royal Carrizo. (And who wouldnt break for that darling little lamb!) If you see sheep, call the institute at 760-346-7334.
