Our political party system is workable. Its the players who screw up the game. Let me introduce a football metaphor. The Congress is the offensive line; the president, the quarterback. The center hikes the ball and, instead of helping the advance the team down the field, they turn and tackle the quarterback. Of course they are opposing parties. Its worse when we have a quarter-black. If the Legislative Branch is headed by one party and the Executive Branch is the opposite party, the goal of the Congress seems to stop any forward progress for the country, if it reflects favorably on the Executive Branch. Damn common sense for the common good for the common citizen. Because the president is not from our party, lets do all we can do damage his / her brand, cripple the appointment process, characterize the chief executive with abusive, defaming language, then tell the electorate how screwed up he is so voters will elect our candidate the next go-round. Case in point: A republican president endorses legislation to stay the deportation of migrant children -- pending due process -- from countries that are not contiguous with the United States. In the face of this current American-born-catastrophe where children are flocking to the our country, we vilify the democratic president for not enforcing immigration policy. Yet he, under current policy, has deported thousands more immigrants than his republican predecessor. Imagine the accomplishments, if we put as much energy into cooperation for the common good -- regardless of political affiliation -- rather than criticize, condemn and complain so we can make our case for the next election. Everybody plays the fool sometime. For whatever reason, we seem intoxicated by this foolishness ... so much so they we risk becoming the next AMERICAN IDIOT.
