Our "system" is just fine. What has been demolished is the Fourth Estate. Without decent information instead of non-stop Republican propaganda, citizens are being fed nonsense and reacting accordingly. Thus we see poor whites in the South voting for people who enforce "Right to Work for Less" laws. There is not even a media campaign to explain why that is wrong, as the Republicans take us back to the Gilded Age and an era of no worker rights. Republicans are dismantling this country a state at a time, with the billions of the Koch brothers, ALEC and others who profit from our misery backing them up. Meanwhile. where is the media - who in earlier decades would have been doing expose after expose on this criminality? Pushing reality TV shows and mindless celebrity updates, and phony "political" debates which are actually non-fact checked propaganda fests. Most voters do not study the issues, they vote their "team habit." And as Luray points out, with gerrymandered districts, the Republicans have guaranteed themselves power they do not deserve. You may despise the Democrats, and I understand - I am an independent myself - but the Democratic party is the only tool we can wield that will realistically stop our country from being sold off to the highest bidders.. ala Goldman Sachs and Wall Street. The Republican mantra of "privatize everything" is in full swing, and it is indeed fascist, not democracy -- it is survival of the richest, not building a solid country of opportunity for all.
