P FOR PLUNDER - MELBOURNE LAUNCH On Friday morning (18th June) - TopicsExpress

P FOR PLUNDER - MELBOURNE LAUNCH On Friday morning (18th June) in Melbourne, we took the P for Plunder report on Moroccos phosphate exports from occupied Western Sahara to the Australian importer, Incitec Pivot. A representative of the company talked with six AWSA members about how Incitec Pivot could work towards a change in its procurement policy so that it can stop being part of the plunder of Saharawi resources which supports the Moroccan occupation. A further meeting is envisaged when Incitec Pivot may be able to report about their plans for fertiliser manufacture in Geelong. It is hoped that Incitec Pivot will come into line with the two other Australian companies featured in the report which have put their imports on hold. Incitec Pivot aspires to be an ethical enterprise and we pointed out that this move would help them implement their core value of Zero harm to everyone everywhere. AWSA congratulates WSRW on its latest report which is the most detailed and closely researched to date. It highlights an important way that Australia can contribute to a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Western Sahara. Simply by halting all phosphate imports from Western Sahara it will stop funding Moroccos brutal occupation of the last colony in Africa and will thus encourage Morocco to stop obstructing the UN peace process leading to a vote of self-determination in Western Sahara. wsrw.org/a105x2905
