PDP disciplinary committee set to invite Oyinlola, others• Suspended National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and a former Acting National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Kawu Baraje may be summoned to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee soon. The committee is headed by a former Minister of Transport, Dr. Umaru Dikko. A member of the committee, who disclosed this to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said that apart from the two men, others to be invited include a former Deputy Chairman of the party, Dr. Sam Jaja and the party’s Vice Chairman in the North- West, Ambassador Ibrahim Kazaure. The four men were suspended by the party on November 11 for alleged anti-party activities. The source said, “Barring any last minute change in plan, we may invite them to appear before us anytime from now. That plan has reached advanced stage.” However, Oyinlola said such invitation would amount to a nullity since he had filed a suit before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to quash the suspension. A text message sent to our correspondent on the matter by Oyinlola said, “The constitution of the party is clear on the matter. Let them go ahead and I know that they know that any action taken by the committee now will amount to a nullity.” Oyinlola is also insisting that the leadership of the party ambushed the judiciary by suspending him. Oyinlola, who was reinstated to his position by the Court of Appeal, was immediately suspended by the members of the National Working Committee of the party before he could return to his position. But the former governor of Osun State, while reacting to some statements credited to the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh that the suspension had nothing to do with the court verdict, said the party’s leadership was standing logic on its head. A press statement credited to Oyinlola in Abuja on Tuesday stated that ‘’the latest design of the PDP National Working Committee to muddle up facts relating to his suspension and three other persons, showed the party’s penchant for peddling of falsehood.” The statement, which was signed by Oyinlola’s Principal Secretary, Mr. Femi Adelegan, reads in part, “Rather than pursue the path of honour, the NWC is engaging in a macabre dance of shame which has ridiculed Nigeria in the eyes of right thinking members of the global society. “The contradictory explanations contained in the publication simply tell solid stories of robust disregard for constitutionalism and the rule of law, as well as a deliberate blatant assault on our courts, without due regard for good conscience and morality. “The opinion of Metuh suggests that the need to suspend Oyinlola, (Abubakar) Baraje and others was considered as an act of emergency by the NWC, which considered it expedient to nail the accused officials without following the due process and respect the rule of law.” He said that educated Nigerians could not be fooled because everybody knew that the only emergency in that decision was the grand design to prevent Oyinlola from resuming office as the national secretary in accordance with the order of the Court of Appeal that reinstated him to office. 1 hour ago
