PK The Film, a great movie! Might even be an epic in the league of 3 Idiots. A lot of relevant points were made and thought-provoking questions were raised in a humorous and entertaining way so as to reach the masses. While it is true, as it always was, that there are many unscrupulous elements using religion as a business tool, a generalisation, like always, will lead to the baby being thrown out with the bath water. 5000 years ago, a lot of people claiming to be divine personalities turned out to be crooks, one among them, Shri Krishna - the King of Dwaaraka, was anything but one as we all know now. He turned out to be the Purusha Himself around which all of Prakrithi revolves after originating from Him and eventually merging into Him just like the birth and death of a planetary system around a star. Also, not all rituals are superstitious in origin. Many times people just fail to understand the significance or worse have a perverted understanding of them. Religion (and its loftier cousin Spirituality) is too vast a topic for me to write an explanation/interpretation of. Let me just give a few examples instead: IDOL WORSHIP: When we salute the Tricolour, do we salute a cloth on a stick OR do we salute what the cloth represents? An idol serves a similar purpose. See also: bit.ly/1sZDh99 AVATAR: Just like a primary school teacher plays among the tiny tots, eats with them, sleeps with them (or appears to be), becomes one among them so as to teach them and make them learn and grow, the universal consciousness, just like water vapour becomes ice, takes up a form every now and then in order to serve a purpose and also to keep a promise (Yadha yadha hi dharmasya...) MATERIALISATION: “It turns out to be amazing in one sense, and perfectly understandable in another, that the physical Universe exhibits a remarkable but very subtle cosmic connectivity between entities that appear different to us. So much so, as one physicist puts it, there is only one electron but it appears to us as many simply because of the effects of Space and Time. This can be beautifully explained with the help of what are called Feynman diagrams but I do not wish to digress into that. Let me just state that in the process of exploring what is called the Einstein-Podosky-Rosen [EPR] paradox, in the mid seventies, some remarkable experiments revealed this cosmic substratum. This discovery was most unexpected. Einstein in fact had ruled it out, but that was because he believed that different entities had separate existence. Nature now says: To your senses they may appear so; to your scientific instruments which are nothing but extensions of your senses, they may appear so. But there is a hidden cosmic connectivity, as a result of which all become one! And it is because of this, there is an apparent violation of the theory of Special Relativity! This is, in my opinion, a stunning discovery, and a few who have thought deeply about it have realized that Nature is actually validating the intuitive concepts of Cosmic inter-connectivity.” ~ Padmashri Prof: G. Venkataraman in God, the Avatar and the Doubting Thomas. TONGUE-IN-CHEEK QUESTIONS: Like If he can do this, then why not that?! Its like asking If Krishna could lift the Govardhana hill then why not just dump another such on the Kaurava army? What was the need for all that drama?! I am sure Lord Krishna had His reasons. A fool can ask more questions than a wise man can answer. Calculators cannot understand what/how/why Super Computers do! It was not a wrong number but a number in a script that ordinary humans are yet to decipher. However escapist though this answer might sound, it is the truth. I am reminded here of three quotes from three giants from the recent past, Gandhi, Tesla and Newton. Those who say religion has nothing to do with politics do not know what religion is. ~ Mahatma Gandhi, a spiritual giant of the 20th century. “The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence.” ~ Nikola Tesla, a scientific giant of the 20th century. If I have seen further, then it is by standing on the shoulders of giants. ~ Sir Isaac Newton CONCLUSION: Love All, Serve All. Help Ever, Hurt Never....and dont ask TOO MANY questions. Try to look within for the answers instead.
