PLANK CHALLENGE DAY 10: Today we celebrate Scapular Awareness Day, man, every year it sneaks up on me the same way. TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT IT.... In any case, activating the serratus muscle is going to be critical for proper shoulder function, bulletproofing, and also fights against the Upper Crossed Posture we alluded to in my Anterior Pelvic Tilt post/photo from the other day, which is that forward head, high shoulder posture. In any case, lets do 3-4 sets of 8-10 on this one, not a single set of 30 so that you can really focus on what youre doing. Heres a few pointers in addition to what Dr. Spider had to say. 1. Get into a strong, stable FLR, i.e. High Push Up, position. 2. Have somebody nearby gently tap, hit, or put their hands on your Lats / under arms. Not tickling your arm pits, but on the muscles under your under arms as this will help you activate them since a lot of the time theyre a little, shall we say, dormant 3. Now pinch together your shoulder blades with control - do not just drop your torso to collapse your scapulas, actually control the movement... 4. Reverse and round out the back like a cat. 5. Rinse and Repeat.
