PLEASE HELP!!! OUR GOVERNOR HAS COME AGAIN. Alison emena emena, ya eme.....Alison dont do it, do not do it yet he continues. This is a summary of the fate and actions of a young man presumably suffering from mental illness who against all entreaties and concerted efforts by his immediate family & the community at large continues to be destructive in his actions. He continues to say things including utterances that tingles even the most hardened ears. I took time going through the Federal constitution of Nigeria searching for relevant chapters and clauses that made provision for the CGC (Community Govt. Council) introduced by Gov. Okorocha in Imo State. Not finding any and in utter frustration, I called up fellow colleagues asking for assistance and information in the unlikely event that I missed it. I was assured that the framers of the constitution in their wise counsel never contemplated such. Next, I turned to the constitution of APGA as a political party hoping to find something similar there. I was NOT disappointed since there was none contained therein. This in essence means that as at the time CGC was introduced in Imo State, the rubber stamp House of Assembly had not even muted the idea of debating such a bill so apart from the fact that constitutionally it was null and void ab initio, politically it was bizarre and strange. How do you place the burden of administering communities on the shoulders of Monarchs, some of them stark illiterates, some got to the throne through fraudulent means (419ers), others inherited the stool even when their competence are in doubt. Former Governors like late Chief Sam Mbakwe, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia, Alhaji Abubakar Rimi and serving Governors such as Gov. Raji Fashola, Govs. Oshiomole, Rotimi Amaechi who achieved much did not embark on such rigmarole or political abracadabra before advancing the course of their respective States through monumental developments. Abracadabra in the sense that the more you try to fathom out what our dear Governor is doing or trying to do, the more you get confused. Here again, we are told that our commissioners and political appointees will henceforth be screened by our almighty monarchs. Haba! Have our ears not heard enough? The same monarchs that have become adept in selling chieftancy titles, offering them to every Dick, Tom and Harry including undesirable elements. The same monarchs that cannot maintain peace in their various domains, not because they cannot but because conflicts pays & rewards them. A man who can, without blinking an eye, confer chieftancy title on a known 419er, a certified criminal, a man of dubious means as long as the price is right, will without any considerations other than and or for economic survival, give positive cum excellent referral to a potential political appointee even when the candidate is not a fit and proper person to be so appointed. How many times have I been offered chieftancy titles by some of these monarchs without meeting me for the first time as long as I am willing to pay up? Most of my friends have variously received the same offers too. Please do not get me wrong. Conferment of chieftancy titles on deserving sons and daughters of a community on account of their contribution to the development of their various communities is absolutely in order but not the other way round. Our Imo state; Eastern heartland; Obigbo; Star and anchor of the rising sun has become a toy land, a center of comic experiment by a political Professor specialising in political abracadabra. And our State House of Assembly members whose political turf and constitutional duties are being trampled upon seems to have vanished into tin air, becoming mute in the process. How can they stand by and watch this brazen rape of their constitutional powers? How can they sleep soundly at night knowing fully well that Our Governor, their Governor, has come again? The Speaker Ben Uwajimuogu, eji kwam ogu ooooooo. Mike Merenini Chairman, APGA UK Chapter. London, U.K. mikemerenini@yahoo
