PLEASE SHARE! Did you know your old Christmas tree can help and attract a range of wildlife in the garden after you take it down? So instead of a trip to the dump, why dont you... - Make a habitat pile: Even though it might not be the biggest, if you quickly chop up your tree and make a habitat pile in a quiet corner of the garden, youll be providing shelter for invertebrates, small mammals and amphibians. - Make a bird feeder: Help feathered friends this winter by trimming the branches from the trunk, carefully drilling holes into it and filling with foods like suet to attract birds like nuthatches and great spotted woodpeckers into your garden. The leftover branches can be added to a habitat or compost pile. - Make wood chippings: Chop up the wood to create a mulch for flowerbeds and other trees to suppress weeds, add nutrients to the soil and be a source of food for ground-feeding birds. Have you recycled your old Christmas tree in the garden? If you have any other ideas wed love to hear from you!
