PLEASE SHARE THIS EMAIL WE RECEIVED TODAY...HELP THE DOGS IN CLAYTON COUNTY AND THE GROUP PARTNERS FOR PETS THAT ARE WORKING SO HARD TO SAVE THEM! Please read this in its entirety. Many dogs will be put down because of new management at Clayton County AC in Jonesboro GA. We need your support to petition the police and county commission. The dogs lives are at stake. Unfortunately Clayton County Police Department who runs animal control has tied the hands of Partners for Pets and we are no longer able to help the dogs as we have in the past. We had reduced the euthanasia rate here by around 80%, and very few dogs were euthanized until the past week. We were given 15 minutes and no notice yesterday to remove dogs from the facility or they would be put down. With transporters on the way, and no place for these dogs to go, they were brought out by staff and we were forced to stuff them into cars and our small office until transporters arrived. Today, we were informed that we would have to have an escort to go into the kennel area. Until today, we were allowed to freely interact with the dogs, take photos, and pull dogs out for transport. This is what weve been doing for nearly three years to save dogs, and also to save Clayton County hundreds of thousands of dollars. Now that has all changed. The system wasnt perfect but it worked well, and that has all been thrown out the window for a new way of doing things. Now dogs with interest who are fully funded with compelling stories or photos that we could get out given time will be put down. (for example Bogey and Bacall) Since only the amount of time a dog has been at the shelter matters, we must assume that pregnant dogs, and puppies will be put down for space at the same time as any other dog. There will be no more Tuesday and Friday put down days, they will just put dogs down at any given moment with no notice. We had a system that worked, and they have decided to start over. If you think Clayton County Animal Control needs to work with Partners and with rescue, please join with us in voicing your concern and email Chief Porter and Deputy Chief Hawkins and each and every Clayton County Commissioner.
